GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW JERSEY

ASSEMBLY RESOLUTION By Assemblyman Cohen
ADOPTED MARCH 4, 1999
WHEREAS, The General Assembly of the State of New Jersey is pleased to recognize the week of March 7, 1999, as Paper Week in the Garden State, an appropriate occasion to acknowledge the American Forest & Paper Association; and,
WHEREAS, Paper Week is being held to emphasize the importance of New Jersey’s paper and forest products industry, which employs more than twenty thousand people in the Garden State and is deeply committed to the prudent and responsible use of natural resources; and,
WHEREAS, New Jersey forest product companies have made considerable capital investments in recycling, and the industry nationally has voluntarily set a goal to recover fifty percent of the paper it produces by the year 2000; and,
WHEREAS, The forest product industry in this State, guided by the tenets of stewardship and sustainability, recognizes its responsibilities in nurturing the forest resource and has committed itself to the continuing principles of the American Forest & Paper Association’s Sustainable Forestry InitiativeSM Program to promote, educate, train, and monitor adherence to nourishing the forest resource for future generations; and
WHEREAS, The strength and success of the State of New Jersey depend, in great measure, upon dedicated organizations such as the American Forest and Paper Association, which promote the responsible use of forest and water resources; and
WHEREAS, It is altogether fitting and proper for the New Jersey General Assembly to acknowledge the occurrence of Paper Week, and to applaud the Sustainable Forestry InitiativeSM Program and its self-regulatory objectives of increasing knowledge, professionalism and stewardship that will foster sustainability of our State’s and our nation’s forests; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey: That this House hereby recognizes as March 7, 1999, as Paper Week in New Jersey, pays tribute to the American Forest & Paper Association’s Sustainable Forestry InitiativeSM Program, and calls upon the people of this State to participate fittingly in the observance of Paper Week; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a duly authenticated copy of this resolution, signed by the Speaker and attested by the Clerk, be transmitted to the American Forest and Paper Association.
